I posted this on Facebook last week:
This relates to ALL Royal Mail post (not just from me) and reflects my own understanding, NOT necessarily that of Royal Mail.
Two of the parcels that I posted on Saturday: one was sent to a Colne address and was received on Monday; the other to a Sutton address, i.e.local delivery, and has still not arrived (Wednesday). These were both sent first class.
Delivery of mail all depends on the different contact points on the route of the parcel. I believe that the main collection point for BD, LS and HG postcodes (Bradford, Leeds and Harrogate) in Stirton, Leeds had problems a few weeks ago that held up everything I sent. This seems to have now cleared.
This example suggests that PERHAPS the Keighley Delivery Office is now constrained and the Colne office is OK.
I also believe that when a backlog of mail is processed, first class post will be prioritised.
As mentioned above, this is based on my own guesswork and has no factual basis to substantiate it ... but I wouldn't be surprised if it is correct.
I’m not being negatively critical of Royal Mail: like many of us, they need to follow guidelines to keep safe and, where necessary, isolate to keep themselves, their families, colleagues and the rest of us safe. The result of this will be unavoidable delays.
Like so many key workers, I am grateful to the people working for the Royal Mail for being out there and keeping life going for us all.
