Dried whole cocoa pod from the Los Rios region of Ecuador.
Using a machete, the pod is cut down from tree, then cut open to take the cocoa beans out. These pods have been not been opened, but left to dry out in the sun. Shake the pod and you hear the beans rattled side.
They have a fabulous rich red colour and are a wonderful Addition to the shop.
These beans are not for consumption, but the whole pod can be used for decoration, education or demonstration (as I do in my shop).
Each pod is between 15 and 20cm (6-8 inches) long.
