Haworth moves forward from the 1940s to the 1840s

On a fabulous bright Monday morning on Haworth Main Street, the first activity of the day was to take down the bunting used in the 1940s weekend. Within half an hour, the BBC bring down the first of the signs to promote the building of the set on Main Street for the depiction of life in the 1840s (it really wasn't planned that way!). The TV film drama by Sally Wainwright is based on the lives of the Brontë family around the time that the sisters wrote their famous novels. This week and next (Spring Bank half term holiday) sees the...

To Walk Invisible - First look at the set

Still more excitement being generated as the preparation for the forthcoming drama about the Brontë family, 'To Walk Invisible', created by Sally Wainwright and set in 1840s Haworth, is well under way. The outdoor shots are to be filmed in and around the village. Join in the production set up for filming on Main Street during half term

Early in June, there will be an fabulous opportunity to see Haworth Main Street as it looked in the Victorian era AND to see a film set being built. Sally Wainwright, the write and creator of 'Happy Valley' and 'Last Tango in Halifax', amongst many others, is set to film 'To Walk Invisible' in and around the village during the week after the Spring Bank half term. The film, a feature length drama, is based on the lives of the Brontë family in Haworth. Wainwright suggests that this will not be the chocolate box image of a cosy village, but will show the 'true grit' realism of life at that time. During the half term...

What a blessing to be in Haworth

What a blessing to be in Haworth

I am quite captivated being here in Haworth. For those who think what a lovely place to live, I can almost say that it certainly is - 'Almost' because I don't, but would like to.  When I look out of the door of the shop, I often see someone stop to photograph the view. This usually shakes me out of my complacency as I realise what a blessing this place is. There are, of course, real lives being lived out here, with struggles and all that life throws at us. We lost two characters in the past fortnight, both of whom...
